It took 11 innings, but the Marlins walked away winners. After storming back to score two in the bottom of the eighth and tie the game thanks to a Hanley Ramirez home run, Miami walked off in the 11th with Ramirez again providing the heroics. He slapped an RBI single to send the fish off happy. The Marlins got their first two home runs at the new ballpark in which they’ve played four games.
Milwaukee – 4
Atlanta – 7
Chipper Jones hit a three-run home run as he helped the Braves sweep the Brewers. In his final season, Jones was able to impress in his first home game played of the season. The home run would be the difference in the game as Atlanta went on to win by three.
Cincinnati – 8
Washington – 5
Joey Votto, the newly-extended first baseman of the Reds, hit a two-run double in the 11th to help the Reds top the Nationals. With the game tied since the seventh, Votto’s hit drove in the go-ahead runs, and the Reds won by three. Ryan Ludwick hit a grand slam earlier in the game before the Nationals came back to tie.
New York – 2
Philadelphia – 8
Cole Hamels gave up two quick ones in the first inning, but he settled down. An Ike Davis two-run home run gave the Mets a first inning, 2-0 lead, but Cole Hamels shut them down the rest of the game. He went seven innings, allowed six hits, gave up just the two runs, and struck out 10. The Philly offense came alive and helped Hamels cruise to the win.
Chicago – 3
St. Louis – 10
Rookie, Matt Carpenter, drove in five runs, and the Cardinals crushed the Cubs. He hit a home run and a triple in the game while playing in place of the injured Lance Berkman. New Cubs starter Paul Maholm struggled. He gave up six runs in four innings. Chicago’s record is a mirror image of St. Louis’ (3-7 vs. 7-3).
Arizona – 5
Colorad – 2
Trevor Cahill, the ground ball machine Arizona picked up in an off-season trade with Oakland, went 7 1/3 innings, struck out six, and allowed just one run. Chris Young homered early and Aaron Hill singled in two runs to make sure the Dbacks stayed ahead for good.
