Even if you don’t consider yourself to be a fan of football, you probably know who Tim Tebow is. The polarizing figure has been at the top of sports and national news for some time, inciting praise as well as criticism. Yesterday evening Tebow managed to dive into the realm of baseball as he made an appearance at the New York Yankees game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Now a member of the New York Jets, Tebow was seen on the stadium’s video board and was reportedly showered with boos by Yankee Stadium onlookers.
Tebow, who was wearing a Yankees baseball cap, was seated in the third row next to the Angels dugout. Most outlets are reporting that when his picture was shown on the big board, Tebow received mostly boos. However, ESPN’s Buster Olney said that when Tebow was first shown he heard a “huge roar” of “mostly cheers”.
For what it’s worth, Tebow was seated next to Miami Heat star guard Dwayne Wade. Wade was also wearing a Yankees cap, but the boos could have had something to do with him if he were also shown on the big screen with Tebow. The Knicks and Heat share the Eastern Conference, though they aren’t considered to be on the same level at this point.
It could also be that it’s going to take New York sports fans some time to warm up to their new backup quarterback.
