Chris Young to DL; Diamondbacks Recall Cody Ransom

The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed outfielder Chris Young on their 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder contusion.  To replace Young on their roster, the Diamondbacks recalled infielder Cody Ransom.

Young sustained his injury while making an impressive catch during the fourth inning of Tuesday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.  Young tracked a fly ball to deep left center field and crashed into the wall in order to make the grab.  Young spent some time on the ground before getting up, nursing his right shoulder.

An MRI taken Wednesday revealed no breaks in Young’s shoulder, but it did uncover a deep bruise in the AC joint as well as a small tear in a ligament.  At this point the Diamondbacks aren’t sure of a timeframe for Young’s return.  According to MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert, “in the best-case scenario, Young will be back in 15 days, but at this point there’s no way to know”.

Ransom has spent parts of nine seasons at the major league level, posting a line of .220/.304/.383 while manning all infield positions other than catcher.  Ransom started the season with the Diamondbacks Triple-A affiliate and maintained an OPS of .929 over his first 10 games and 34 at-bats.
