Mike Trout is Tearing Up Triple-A

Mike Trout is playing out of his mind right now.  Entering the spring, most of the focus regarding top prospects centered on Bryce Harper, and for good reason.  However, while Harper’s gotten off to a slow start by his standards, Trout has taken Triple-A by storm.  Still, it doesn’t sound like Los Angeles Angels fans should be holding their breath while waiting for Trout to get the call.

Over his first 20 Triple-A contests, Trout has maintained a ridiculous line of .403/.467/.632.  In 77 at-bats, Trout has four doubles, five triples, a home run, 20 runs scored and 13 RBIs.  Trout’s walked 11 times compared to 16 strikeouts and has stolen six bases.

The 20-year-old has been most impressive over his last five games.  During that span, Trout is 8-17 with five extra base hits, five RBIs, eight runs scored, five walks and a pair of stolen bases.

Even though there’s not much more Trout could do to warrant a call up by the Angels, it doesn’t sound like Los Angeles is planning on adding their top prospect in the near future.

Before they bring up Trout, who figures to be their center fielder of the future, the Angels will have to figure out what to do with current center fielder Peter Bourjos.  This offseason, the Angels were reportedly taking calls on Bourjos, who is only 25 years old himself and showed promise last season.

Either way, it has to be encouraging for Angels fans to see their phenom tearing up the high-minors.  If Trout keeps this up, he’ll likely force the hand of the offensively-challenged Angels.
