Blue Jays Rumors: Toronto Seeks Masher, TOR Starter
Earlier this month, Toronto Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos told MLB Network Radio that he would “love to get one more bat”. Yesterday, Jayson Stark of ESPN added to the Blue Jays trade rumor mill saying that the club is “hunting diligently for another masher and another top-of-the-rotation arm.
For a club that is receiving as much early-season praise as they are and who is projected by some to compete in the American League BEast this season, the Blue Jays are a young team. Stark points out that no one in the Blue Jays lineup is older than 31. The oldest member of the Blue Jays current starting five is Brandon Morrow, and he’s 27.
For this reason and because the Blue Jays have one of the best minor leagues in the game, Stark believes the club could easily improve on their major league roster as the season continues.
Toronto’s starting pitching and offense are already on the edge of being in the top third of the league, but both are still lacking in the eyes of the club. Anthopoulos clearly wants to add another impact bat to compliment his lineup. While the Blue Jays starting rotation is filled with talent and promise, it doesn’t contain an established veteran starter.
With the comments made by AA earlier this month and now Stark’s injection of rumors, it looks like the Blue Jays will be a team to watch as the deadline approaches.
