Victor Martinez Could Rejoin Tigers by September
After it was reported that he tore his ACL this January, many expected Detroit Tigers slugger Victor Martinez to be done for the entire 2012 season. However, Martinez told reporters yesterday that, according to his doctors, there is a “good chance” he could return for the Tigers in September.
Following his surgeries, there was news that Martinez didn’t require a complete ACL reconstruction which meant that he likely wouldn’t miss an entire season due to the injury. Martinez’s rehab has apparently gone well up until this point, and it sounds as if the four-time All-Star could rejoin the Tigers for their anticipated playoff run.
Entering the year, many figured Detroit would run away with the American League Central crown. The race has been closer than many expected to start the season, but despite losing eight of their last 10 the Tigers only find themselves a game back of the Cleveland Indians.
Detroit currently sits in the middle of the pack in most offensive categories, but a middle-of-the-lineup consisting of Prince Fielder, Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez will be a serious boost for the Tigers come September and the playoffs.
