Roy Oswalt Rumors: Red Sox, Braves, Rangers Favorites?

As the All-Star break approaches, free agent starting pitcher Roy Oswalt figures to become one of the talks of baseball.  As it stands, Oswalt is expected to sign mid-season and has said that he’s willing to join any team in the majors.  While several clubs have been tied to Oswalt throughout the winter and spring, Troy E. Renck of the Denver Post believes the right-hander is likely to end up signing with one of three teams; the Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves or Texas Rangers.

Renck shared his opinion on Oswalt when he was asked whether or not the Colorado Rockies would make a run at the veteran.  While Renck doesn’t believe Oswalt’s a fit with the Rockies, he could see the 34-year-old signing with the Braves, Red Sox or Rangers.

All three clubs figure to be contenders this season.  While Oswalt prefers to pitch closer to his Mississippi home, he’s said that he’s willing to sign anywhere if he waits until mid-season.  Oswalt dealt with back issues last season, but his track record figures to have contenders interested in him.

The Braves and Red Sox find themselves in the bottom third of the league in most starting pitching categories.  The Rangers are not as clear of a fit at this time, but things could certainly change as the All-Star break approaches and Texas has been one of the clubs most tied to Oswalt.
