AL East Injury Updates: Brett Gardner

Center fielder Brett Gardner is no longer on the team’s AAA team, so the rehab games are over for Gardner, who was suffering from an elbow injury. In fact, he could be on his way to New York to play in a game against the Tampa Bay Rays today. His strained right elbow has kept him on the DL since April 18th, and the star will be looking to build on a 5 WAR season. Gardner has had a .424 OBP in the nine games he’s played in.

First baseman Mark Teixeira was diagnosed with inflamed airways, and the root of the cause for his troubles breathing this year has been found. A notoriously slow starter, Teixeira has a .270 OBP this season. He does, at least, have four home runs and 17 RBIs.

The official ailment that Tex has are severely inflamed bronchial airways, but it’s not a huge deal and is extremely easy to treat. In fact, the slugger has been given non-anabolic steroids and should be better within a week.

Boston Red Sox left fielder Carl Crawford has had several injuries during his early and disappointing career with the team, and his recent wrist and elbow injuries have kept him from being able to swing the bat. However, Crawford is close to being able to swing.

The 30-year-old LF is set to meet up with the team in Boston and will be evaluated by the start of next week. If the Sox believe that Crawford’s elbow and wrist have made enough progress, then he will be able to hit. Even if things go well, Crawford will still be out for a while but is aiming to return before the break.
