Los Angeles Angels C.J. Wilson will start today

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher C.J. Wilson was set to take on Yu Darvish and his former team in a rubber match in Arlington, Texas on Friday. After allowing a run and leaving the bases loaded with one out, a two-and-a-half hour rain delay ended up cutting his outing short and bringing in Jerome Williams to pitch in the 10-3 blowout loss. Wilson was met with an unsurprising chorus of boos when his name was announced, but the fun-loving pitcher laughed it off.

The crowd of nearly 45,000 didn’t get to see Wilson pitch most of the game in Texas, but they will get to see him pitch today. Manager Mike Scioscia was left with a conundrum, and he decided to allow C.J. Wilson to prolong his reunion and get a second shot at that daunting Rangers line-up.

Yesterday, Wilson ended up throwing just 22 pitches and allowing four earned runs, even though none of the “hits” were hit hard. Most of them were infield singles, with quite a bit of them going to Howie Kendrick. The poor luck did not reflect well on his stat sheet, and Wilson will be ready to try and get a road win for the Angels against, according to our power rankings, the team that has been the unquestionable top team in baseball over the past few weeks.

Fellow star starter Jered Weaver will make his scheduled start on Sunday and will not be moved up. Wilson will become the first pitcher to start on back-to-back days since Texas Rangers pitcher Aaron Myette back in 2002. Scioscia did make the right choice, because 22 pitches isn’t a whole lot and Wilson should be able to give six quality innings for L.A. against a tough group of hitters.
