Ozzie Guillen is not Kim Kardashian; Cancels Twitter Account

Ozzie Guillen might just be growing up in front of our eyes.  The flamboyant manager of the Miami Marlins made it official yesterday that he is giving up Twitter for good.  Guillen told reporters that he is done with the social media service, even going as far as using the word hate to describe his feelings regarding Twitter.

Ozzie has always been good for a quote, but these quotes haven’t always been good for Ozzie or the teams he’s been affiliated with.  The most recent evidence of this was Guillen’s Fidel Castro fiasco.  While the skipper managed to escape that incident without losing his job, it’s likely only a matter of time before Ozzie says something else ridiculous.

For this reason it probably wasn’t the safest thing for Guillen or the Marlins for Ozzie to have his own personal Twitter account and thus another potential soap box to stand on.

Here’s a video of Guillen explaining his reasons for leaving Twitter.  While he will no longer be an active tweeter, Guillen did recommend that Marlins fans follow the ever-colorful Logan Morrison at @LoMoMarlins.

While some may think this was a display of growth for Ozzie, Guillen came back with the following statement; “I’m not Kim Kardashian.  I don’t sell anything in my life to have a Twitter”.  This shows Ozzie’s true reason for canceling his Twitter account; the fact that there’s no money to be had from his tweeting.
