Chicago White Sox Paul Konerko Injury Update

Chicago White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko is one of the most consistent sluggers in the game, and it always seems like he does everything in his power to help the White Sox win games.

The 36-year-old’s eye was once swollen shut, but now it is swollen “halfway” shut. He was hit by a pitch from Chicago Cubs hard-throwing starter Jeff Samardzija. The good news is that Konerko does not have any fractures around his eye and can return on Tuesday to face the Minnesota Twins.

“It’s just a matter of getting the swelling down,’’ said Paul Konerko. “There’s no damage, no fractures, no problems with vision other than just kind of seeing the swelling when I look out. So as soon as we get that out of the way, I’ll be good to go.’’

It’s good to see that things are going well for Konerko after that harrowing injury, and it could have been much worse. The Sox 1B is a warrior, and it will be good to see him back on the team soon. He has a 1.058 OPS this season in 139 at-bats with eight homers, 23 RBIs, and a terrific .453 OBP.

In his absence, Adam Dunn carried the offense yesterday and smashed his 13th homer of the season to help the team beat their city rivals. He has a .390 OBP this year and is enjoying some great regression after a nightmare season in 2011 that looked like someone took one of his cold weeks and transformed it to a projected season value based on that week.
