Former Dodgers Manager Tommy Lasorda Suffers Heart Attack
According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports earlier today, and later widely reported by numerous outlets, Tommy Lasorda
suffered a heart attack and had a stent put in. He is said to be resting and doing well. The 84 year old Hall of Fame manager has had brushes with heart issues in the past. His managerial career came to an end in 1996 after he suffered a heart attack.
Lasorda managed the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1976 to 1986. He won four National League Pennants and two World Series titles. Lasorda was also voted Manager of the Year in 1983 and 1988. In 3,040 games managed, he has a record of 1,599-1,349.
In a statement, Lasorda said, “The doctors confirmed I do bleed Dodger Blue. I’m looking forward to being back at the stadium to cheer on the Dodgers.”
Lasorda is expected to be released on Wednesday. There has been no word on when he will return to his normal duties and activities. He is currently serving the Dodgers organization as special advisor to the chairman.
