Seattle Mariners 1, Los Angeles Dodgers 0

Six Seattle Mariners pitchers teamed up to no-hit the Los Angeles Dodgers in a tense 1-0 interleague battle out west. Kevin Millwood got things going with six strikeouts in six innings, and several quick outs in spurts were recorded by the next five starters to help defeat starter Nate Eovaldi and the Dodgers. Ichiro had three hits to lead the way and was scored in by Kyle Seager with two outs in the seventh for the game’s only run.

Yankees 9, Mets 1

Robinson Cano homered twice and drove in four runs for the New York Yankees, who shellacked Johan Santana in this Subway Series match-up. Nick Swisher was at the top of his game with a homer and a double for the home side. Hiroki Kuroda was excellent on the mound in seven innings, allowing just one hit and a walk with seven strikeouts.

Phillies 9, Orioles 6

Shane Victorino and Jim Thome had three hits apiece, with Victorino going off for five RBIs on a double and a homer. Thome doubled twice, and Mike Fontenot even got into the action with his first home run of the season. Chris Davis and J.J. Hardy hit bombs for the Orioles, who received one of the worst starts of the season from young arm Jake Arrieta (11 hits and nine runs allowed in four innings).

Pirates 4, Royals 2

Erik Bedard pitched six solid frames, and Neil Walker had three hits to lead the Pirates to victory.

Nationals 7, Red Sox 4

Stephen Strasburg had another excellent outing with 13 strikeouts in six innings to earn his seventh win of the season. He allowed just four hits, two runs, and two walks to outduel Felix Doubront who struggled mightily. Bryce Harper homered and doubled, and Danny Espinosa smashed two doubles for the Nats.

Reds 6, Tigers 5

The Detroit Tigers lost to the Cincinnati Reds in ten innings after Miguel Cairo scored on a fielder’s choice in the tenth. Brennan Boesch led the way for the Tigers with three hits and two RBIs and a homer, while the Reds received three hits, three RBIs, and a tenth homer on the year from star first baseman Joey Votto.

Rays 5, Marlins 1

Matt Joyce doubled, homered for the tenth time this year, and scored three runs to provide most of the offense for the Rays. Although Ricky Nolasco pitched better than Jeremy Hellickson, the Rays bullpen was shut down and fared out much better than Royce Webb. Omar Infante continues to hit the ball well, as the Miami 2B doubled for the 14th time this year as one of his three hits.

Braves 4, Blue Jays 3

It took ten innings, but the Atlanta Braves were able to beat the Toronto Blue Jays thanks to a solid performance on the mound from Brandon Beachy and an error from catcher J.P. Arencibia that allowed Jason Heyward to score the winning run.

Astros 8, White Sox 3

The Houston Astros cooled down the Chicago White Sox with this big offensive performance that spoiled a decent outing from Gavin Floyd. Wandy Rodriguez allowed nine hits, but he picked up the win due to three RBIs from No. 9 hitter Brian Bogusevic and No. 3 hitter and shortstop Jed Lowrie. Both homered, as did Brett Wallace (for the first time this year). Rising 2B and lead-off hitter Jose Altuve hit two doubles for the ‘Stros.

Brewers 9, Padres 5

Corey Hart drove in two runs and hit two bombs as the Milwaukee Brewers leadoff hitter in this victory, and he was almost matched by Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera who had two runs, two hits, two steaks, a homer, and a double in the losing effort.

Twins 8, Cubs 7

The Minnesota Twins took this game in ten innings, as Josh Willingham hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth off of recently acquired Cubs reliever Shawn Camp. Alfonso Soriano had three hits for three RBI, including two homers in a big day for the slugger. Meanwhile, Ben Revere‘s three hits at the top of the Minnesota order paced his team’s offensive attack.

Indians 6, Cardinals 2

Josh Tomlin allowed just two runs in seven solid innings, as only Yadier Molina (three hits and a double) had an extra base hit or multiple hits for the St. Louis Cardinals. He achieved both feats  in a big day for the catcher, but the Indians were certainly better on offense against former starter Jake Westbrook, who was mediocre, with three players reaching two hits.

Angels 7, Rockies 2

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher C.J. Wilson continues his big year with a shutdown performance of the Colorado Rockies in eight innings. He struck out nine batters while allowing just five hits, one run, and one walk. Mike Trout scored three runs and had three hits, but Torii Hunter had an even bigger impact. Not only did he also get three hits hitting behind Trout in the order in the No. 2 spot, but Hunter also drove in six runs with two bombs traveling 424 and 457 feet.

Diamondbacks 9, Athletics 8

In a game that went down to the wire, the Arizona Diamondbacks completed a terrific comeback to defeat Brian Fuentes and the Oakland Athletics. After being down 8-4 in the sixth inning, the D’Backs scored two runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to two runs. Then, Ryan Roberts hit a dramatic home run to win the game for Arizona with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. His shot off of Fuentes traveled 407 feet and would score Chris Young and Aaron Hill to give them just what they needed- a 9-8 win in the best way possiblE. Roberts home run has to be the home run of the year so far; it was amazing. I mean, this was probably the best game of the year.

Rangers 5, Giants 0

The Texas Ranger prevailed in a rematch of the 2010 World Series that was won by the San Francisco Giants. Matt Harrison tossed an absolute gem in a complete game shutout and allowed just five hits and no walks. Chris Gentry had an immaculate 5-5 performance for the Rangers with two RBIs and a double.
