Carlos Quentin Rumors: Tigers Interestes, Yankees Not

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports says the Yankees aren’t in on the Carlos Quentin trade rumors because they want

someone with speed. Quentin doesn’t fit as a Brett Gardner replacement because they’d lose a lot defensively.

On the other hand, the Detroit Tigers are looking long and hard at Quentin. According to Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports the Tigers have taken notice of Quentin’s hot streak since coming off the disabled list and may look to work out a deal.

Quentin has been on a streak greater than any other point in his career. He’s hitting .421/.542/.921 with five home runs in 12 games. He’s been carrying the Padres who are floating between the worst record a d second worst record on baseball. The 29-year old outfielder is a free agent after this season. He will likely command much more than the $7 million he’s making now in his next contract.

The Padres have yet to commit to the fact that they’ve officially put Quentin on the trading block. They may hold off on a trade until the new owner is in place.
