MLB Game Recaps: New York Yankees Top Washington Nationals for 9th Straight Win

The people who make the Major League Baseball schedule probably thought this series was a throw-away series.

They probably thought, like any interleague series with the Yankees on the road, the best case scenario would be a bump in attendance for the home team.  What the schedule makers couldn’t have known was this would be a battle of two first place teams entering the series with equal six-game winning streaks.

The Yankees completed a sweep of the Nationals to push their win steak to nine while sending the Nationals to their third straight loss.  Ivan Nova went 7 1/3 innings, allowed seven hits, and gave up just on early run.  He struck out four and walked just one.

Edwin Jackson was solid, but it wasn’t enough at the Nationals offense failed him.  Jackson pitched six innings and gave up two runs.  Bryce Harper went 2 for 4 with a double, and Adam LaRoche went deep.  Yet, LaRoche’s home run would be all the Nationals would get.
