MLB Trade Rumors: Detroit Tigers Looking For a Bat

The Tigers are in the same position the White Sox were last year. Talented, but looking up at another team leading

the division. As such, the team is looking to add a little pop to their lineup.

According to Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports, the Tigers are looking for a right-handed bat with power. They need help in the outfield and at second base, but Morosi thinks second base should be a priority.

"While the Tigers are expected to pursue Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin if he becomes available, their most obvious need is at second base."

Most believe the Padres will trade Quentin, but the team still hasn’t confirmed that they are actively shopping him. For that reason, and the necessity of upgrading at second base, the Tigers may soon look elsewhere.

Two of the better second basemen in which Morosi mentions, Darwin Barney and Jose Altuve, both play for teams expected to be sellers come trade deadline time. However, both of those players are young and could serve as building blocks for the future. It would be surprising to see the Cubs part with Barney or the Astros part with Altuve.

No matter who the Tigers pursue, it’s clear they will be buyers. They spent too much this offseason and play in such a weak division that any thoughts of conceding the season would be preposterous. There will be available talent. The Tigers just need to decide who they want and who they need.
