2012 S2S Mid-Season All-Stars: International League

Tonight (7/11) the Pacific Coast and International Leagues will match their All-Star rosters up against one another in Buffalo, New York. The IL’s Bisons are the host team for the event which happens to be the 25th installment of the Triple-A All-Star Game.

Similar to the PCL, the International League’s roster consists of 30 players that were selected by club managers, general managers, media members, through online fan voting and by the league office. The full roster was revealed at the end of June on MiLB.com, but here at S2S we’re being a little more selective, and a lot less democratic, in building our own 17-player All-Star teams for each of the full season leagues.

To qualify for a S2S team, players had to spend the bulk of the first half of the season and still be in the league at the time of our selections. Another point to make about our picks is that they are based solely on 2012 statistical performance. Whether a player is his organization’s top prospect or just roster filler is immaterial to us when it comes to our selections.

Justin Germano was cruising toward a spot on our roster but was called up to pitch for Boston on July 7th. Similarly many of the viable options at SS had been called up to the majors leaving that position abnormally thin. It necessitated that I blur my service time requirements so I could select a player that was putting up All-Star worthy numbers. At 3B I also had to get a little creative and pick a player that has spent only 12 of his 91 games at the hot corner this season.

The Indianapolis Indians landed four players on the below team and much of their pitching staff was in consideration for various spots. Host team Buffalo had three players make the squad while Charlotte and Syracuse each placed two on the team. Columbus, Gwinnett, Lehigh Valley, Louisville, Pawtucket and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre each had one representative to round things out. Of the 14 IL franchises; Durham, Norfolk, Rochester and Toledo were left standing on the sidelines and did not have a player make our 17-player team.
