While attempting to beat out a double-play ball in the ninth inning of Saturday’s game with the Orioles, the New York Yankee slugger dove for first base in an attempt to extend the rally. Teixeira was called out on the play although he beat the throw. Adding injury to insult, Tex had to miss Sunday’s contest after coming up sore in his calf again.

Teixeira will have an MRI on Monday and manager Joe Girardi says that if the test shows the calf to be in the same condition it was two weeks ago, he could miss upwards of a couple of weeks.  “He’s sore,” Girardi said. “He doesn’t feel like it’s back to square one, but it’s sore.”

With Teixeira once again out of the lineup, the Yankees will turn to some combination of Nick Swisher, Steve Pearce, and Eric Chavez at first base. The Yankees won Sunday’s game in Baltimore, splitting the four-game set and re-claiming a one game lead in the American League East division.
