In a statement released on Wednesday, WGN TV announced that Bob Brenly will not be returning to the broadcast booth for the Chicago Cubs in 2013

"Cubs analyst Bob Brenly has informed WGN-TV he will not return to the team’s broadcast booth in 2013, and instead will seek another baseball broadcasting position.Bob Brenly/Broadcaster:“Working here in Chicago was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my professional career. The Ricketts family, everyone associated with the Cubs and WGN and, most importantly, Cubs’ fans everywhere, will always be in our hearts, and Joan and I wish nothing but the best for the organization moving forward."

That Brenly is walking away from his Cubs gig only adds more fuel to the speculation that Brenly would be headed to the desert to replace Mark Grace on the Diamondbacks broadcasts. The D-backs announced earlier this month than neither Grace nor play-by-play man Daron Suton would be retained for next season. Brenly was the manager of the Diamondbacks from 2001-04, winning the franchise’s only World Series title in his first year at the helm.
