Royals Ink Xavier Nady

Kansas City continued to add pieces to the mix with the hope that they can find some quality production at an inexpensive cost, particularly given the recent news that the team may already be over their planned budget for the 2013 season, agreeing to sign Xavier Nady to a minor league deal with an invitation to Spring Training.

Nady spent the 2012 season split between the Washington Nationals and San Francisco Giants organizations. He first joined the Nationals on a minor league deal, hoping to land a spot in Spring Training and serve as a veteran presence for the young Nationals team. He’d eventually be released mid-season before latching on with the eventual World Series Champion Giants. Combined in 166 plate appearances between the two teams, Nady hit just .184/.253/.316 with 4 HR and 13 RBI on the year, seeing time in each of the outfield corners. He didn’t fare much better in 140 additional plate appearances at Triple-A, batting .236/.307/.425 between the two organizations.

Nady is a career .270/.324/.432 hitter in 3,199 plate appearances over the past 11 seasons. He’s seen time in the Major Leagues with eight different teams.
