In case you missed it (and if you did, what rock have you been under?) Manny Ramirez is playing baseball again. These days he is suiting up for the EDA Rhinos of the Chinese Professional Baseball League in Taiwan.
He now sits atop the league in home runs with five after hitting his fifth this past Sunday. So far through 25 games Manny has posted a line of .347/.396/.582. He also ranks second in RBI and is in the Top 10 in hits with 34.
But perhaps the best part of the Manny experiment, if you will, is the home run calls from the TV announcers. One of the best came on his fourth home run hit last week against the league leading Uni President Lions.
The announcer is learning some English phrases including my favorite of “show me the money”.
While the crowds aren’t as big as they were in the beginning of the season, they are still going nuts anytime Ramirez goes deep, and Manny is not disappointing. He is hitting line drive home runs (his 4th) and moon shots (his 5th). They are definitely loving him in Taiwan.
Manny Ramirez stats:
G | PA | RBI | R | H | 2B | 3B | HR | TB | DP | SF | SB | BB | SO | SB | CS | AVG | SLG |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
25 | 106 | 26 | 13 | 34 | 8 | 0 | 5 | 57 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 5 | 11 | 0 | 0 | 0.347 | 0.582 |
Here is a look at the last two home runs by Manny Ramirez. His fourth is my favorite call of the year so far, but the fifth one doesn’t disappoint either.
