Player of the Year George Springer, Corpus Christi (HOU)
Springer split his time between Double-A and Triple-A this season, but he was so great the 23-year-old was an MVP-candidate in both leagues. The UConn product hit .297/.399/.579 with 19 home runs and 23 stolen bases over 73 games for the Hooks. Springer didn’t slow down after being promoted to Oklahoma City, falling just short of 40/40 with 37 homers and 45 stolen bases. He also hit over .300 and both drove in and scored 100 runs. In terms of on-field performance, there was no beating George Springer in 2013.
Pitcher of the Year David Martinez, Corpus Christi (HOU)
Martinez led the Texas League with 14 wins, a 2.20 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP. The right-hander posted an impressive 4.30 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 129 1/3 innings for the Hooks. Martinez signed out of Venezuela in 2005, and after nine seasons in the Astros’ system the 26-year-old made his Major League debut this August. He’s back with Houston after being recalled Saturday.
