According to ESPN Chicago Mike Maddux has serious interest in the Chicago Cubs job. If you have been keeping up with it very closely, you will see that the New York Yankees are going to offer Joe Girardi a contract later this afternoon. It will be tough for the Cubs to outbid the Yankees, so if Girardi stays with the Yanks, why not give Maddux a shot. The Cubs also have received interest from Manny Acta and Sandy Alomar Jr.

Mike Maddux was in the running for the Cubs job back in 2011 along with Sveum, but dropped out due to family issues. Well now he is ready to get his feet wet as a manager in the Major Leagues. The Cubs might not want to go after a guy with no managerial experience, after Sveum, but there aren’t too many experienced guys on the market just yet.

Maddux has been in the Cubs organization as a special assistant and his younger brother and future Hall of Famer Greg Maddux played in Chicago. It could be a nice fit for Maddux now that his family is more comfortable about moving away from Texas. What if Mike brings in his brother Greg to be the pitching coach? What a scene that would be in Chicago to have the Maddux brothers together. Greg Maddux played 10 seasons in a Cubs uniform winning 133 games, including his only 20 win season.

The Cubs have nothing to lose, they have really struggled and attendance is way down, Maddux and the young players making their way through the minors could really change that quick. Maddux may not have the managerial experience that the Cubs may be looking for, but he will have the energy to win games in the friendly confines of Wrigley Field.
