Game 1

The Mesa Solar Sox took advantage of three Scottsdale errors to defeat the Scorpions 7-4 on Tuesday. Led the Albert Almora’s two doubles (and two RBI), the Solar Sox also got a strong contribution from Angels’ farmhand C.J. Cron who hit his first home run of the fall. Nationals prospect Sammy Solis had another strong start, leading the K-athon, striking out eight Scorpions in his four innings of one-run, three-hit, two-walk ball. Cam Bedrosian struck out the side in order in the fifth and Kenny Faulk and Corey Knebel each had a pair of strikeouts to total a whopping fifteen for the pitching staff.
For Scottsdale, starter Aaron Northcraft was hit hard, lit up for five runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks in two and two-thirds innings. Juan Jaime pitched two scoreless innings for Scottsdale. The Scorpions only had one player with a multi-hit game: Angel Villalona went two for three with a walk and drove in two runs but also made an error and Cory Vaughn hit a home run for Scottsdale. Shortstop Alen Hanson continued to have fielding troubles, making another two errors to give him five for the fall.

Game 2
A bases loaded walk by Chris Taylor (his second base on balls of the game) gave the Peoria Javelinas the lead in a 5-4 win over the Glendale Desert Dogs. Nolan Fontana walked twice while Cameron Rupp and Japhet Amador each had a pair of hits, Amador blasting a solo home run off of starter Michael Lorenzen in the fourth inning. Second baseman Orlando Calixte also drove in two runs with a base hit. Starter Jason Adam was strong for Peoria, going four shutout innings and giving up just two hits. Noel Argulles gave up three of the runs in his one inning while Alex Sogard earned the win, despite giving up a run over two innings himself.
For Glendale, starter Michael Lorenzen gave up four runs (three were earned) over four innings and Jarret Martin struggled with his control, giving up the winner among four walks over just two-thirds of an inning. Eddie Rosario had a great day with the bat, going three for four with a double and an RBI despite getting picked off. Corey Seager, playing shortstop, scored a run but also made two errors, both on throws.

Game 3
The Surprise Saguaros were all over the poor defense of the Salt River Rafters, taking advantage of four errors and winning 9-2. Leadoff man Tyler Naquin had three hits, scored a run and drove in two for Surprise while Jorge Alfaro had a pair of hits. Alfaro, the catcher, also contributed with his defense, throwing out one of the two runners attempting to steal and picking off a runner at first base. Jason Rogers and Dariel Alvarez each drove in a pair with Alvarez hitting a triple. Starter Miguel Pena was strong, going three and two-thirds innings and giving up just one run while Nick McBride gave up the other. Keith Couch had an excellent two innings, striking out four over two innings.
Salt River Starter Bo Schultz had a strong outing, giving up two runs on four hits but none of the runs were earned. Schultz also struck out four. Kraig Sitton gave up the other six runs over just two-thirds of an inning. Stephen Piscotti and Nick Ahmed each went two for four for the game while Jake Lamb, the DH, drove in both runs with a double. Blue Jays prospect Andy Burns made two of the errors for Salt River and was also caught stealing after getting a single. Stephen Piscotty also made some costly mistakes, getting picked off and making a throwing error.
