A two-run home run by Houston Astros prospect Japhet Amador in the seventh inning put the Peoria Javelinas up by the final score of 5-3 over the Salt River Rafters. Both starters were strong in this game with Jason Adam going four innings of two-hit, one-run ball for Peoria and Bo Schultz going five innings and giving up one run while striking out five. While Keyvius Sampson gave up two more runs for Peoria, both were unearned and the rest of the bullpen shut the door on Salt River. The Rafters’ bullpen, however, gave up two-spots in the sixth and seventh innings to wind up with a blown save and a loss.
The Rafters only had five hits, with the best game going to Tim Wheeler who went one for two, walked twice, scored a run and drove in another. For the Javelinas, aside from Amador’s home run (his only hit of the game), Delino DeShields made up for his costly error by going three for four with two doubles. Austin Hedges also had a good game, going one for three with a triple and a walk.

The Scottsdale Scorpions got some excellent pitching from the staff, limiting the Glendale Desert Dogs to just five hits in a 5-1 victory. Starter Aaron Northcraft from the Atlanta Braves organization had a much better start this time out, going three innings and giving up no runs on two hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Tyler Waldron followed with two shutout innings while Shae Simmons, Zack Thornton and Cody Satterwhite each threw an inning of scoreless relief. Catcher Andrew Susac had the biggest day with the bat, going three for four with a home run and two RBI. Alex Dickerson also had a pair of hits for Scottsdale.
For Glendale, Michael Lorenzen got the start and gave up four of the five runs on eight hits (including Susac’s home run) and one walk. The relievers were all solid until Kevin Vance gave up another run in the eighth inning. Mike Thomas was particularly effective, striking out all three batters he faced. The five hits were all singles and were scattered throughout the lineup although Marcus Semien and Colin Moran each took two walks.
