St Louis Cardinals v Boston Red Sox: World Series Game 1 Info
Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports
Fall Classic gets underway this evening.
The two teams with baseball’s best record, both at 97-65. No clear-cut favorite this year. Most prognosticators have these teams evenly matched. Bovada had the Boston Red Sox as a slight favorite. Might be because of home field as you can’t find too much that does separate these teams. Well, maybe age of their respective pitching staffs.

Starting Pitchers
St. Louis – Adam Wainwright (postseason: 2-1, 1.57 ERA, 0.783 WHIP, 3 GS, 23 IP)
Wainwright’s winning percentage is better on the road (.769) than at home (.600), but the ERA, batting average against are higher. In the case of BAA, it’s almost 60 points higher away from Busch III. ANd the Red Sox lefties may actually fare worse than the righties. LHB are hitting .242 against Wainwright while RHB are batting .254.
Boston – Jon Lester (postseason: 2-1, 2.33 ERA, 1.190 WHIP, 3 GS, 19.1 IP)
The difference between pitching at Fenway and on the road are vastly different for Lester.
Home: 7-1, 3.09 ERA, 1.156 WHIP, .237 BAA
Away: 8-7, 4.21 ERA, 1.389 WHIP, .263 BAA
Of Lester’s 33 starts during the regular season, only 13 came at home. In those 13 games , he served up a total of six home runs. The Cardinals aren’t a home run type of team either, so I wouldn’t look for one from them this evening.
