Mostly coming out of this report by La Velle E. Neal III of the Minnesota Star Tribune, the news is filtering out that Eddie Rosario, an infield prospect for the Minnesota Twins will be suspended for 50 games due to taking a banned substance.
Rosario, on his part, has claimed that he was taking pills to recover from an arm injury. The league has yet to comment.
Rosario played in the Arizona Fall League this season where he hit .238/.262/.275 in 80 at bats but had a much better season split between the Florida State League (High-A) and the Eastern League (Double-A). Rosario hit a combined .302/.350/.460 in Fort Myers and New Britain with 32 doubles, eight triples and 10 home runs over 544 plate appearances.
John Sickels at Minor League Ball thinks that should this suspension be confirmed, it won’t set Rosario back too far, writing that he “would still expect to see Rosario in the major leagues some time in 2014.”
Before the 2013 season, MLB.com had Rosario ranked at #8 in the Twins system and Baseball America had him at #7.
