The mind is willing for Johnny Damon and apparently the body is still able. That’s the word coming from Damon’s agent Scott Boras. Johnny is letting it be known that he wants to still play and is hoping to hook on with a team for spring training.

Is there a team out there willing to hand out a spring invite to a 40-year-old outfielder who hasn’t played since 2012? Sure. Sure there is.

In fact, here’s a list of five teams I think should look into signing Damon. Giving old Johnny Damon one more ride.

1. Chicago Cubs

He would be cheap, and that’s good news for the Cubs cause they don’t want to spend any money. Also the Wrigley faithful would embrace him. The drunks love their scrappy guys.

2. New York Mets

They would get one day of headlines out of it after Damon ripped the Yankees.

3. Philadelphia Phillies

He could help bring leadership to that clubhouse full of selfish jerks.

4. St. Louis Cardinals

He would probably hit .280 and flash the leather like it was 2004. I want some of that Cardinals magic elixir.

5. Boston Red Sox

Bring back Kevin Millar and Curt Schilling too. It would be like seeing the Rolling Stones on tour.
