Tampa Bay Rays and San Diego Padres Exchange Prospects

Logan Forsythe is on his way to the Tampa Bay Rays and Alex Torres is heading to the San Diego Padres, but five additional Minor League prospects are on the move.

The Padres receive Jesse Hahn, a 24-year old pitcher who has not yet seen time above High-A. He has a mid-90’s fastball to go along with a change and curve.  His fastball has decent run in on right-handed hitters, and his curve is decent.  Since there is such a difference between curve and fastball, he will need his change to improve to remain successful.  Jason Mast has a full report on Hahn here.

The Rays get four prospects in the deal, Matt Lollis, Matt Andreise, Brad Boxberger, and Maxx Tissenbaum.

Lollis is a big, 6’9″/250 lbs., reliever that can touch 97.  He has struggled in Double-A and Triple-A over the past two years, but his big body and big fastball make him an interesting piece in the deal.

Andreise is a ground ball pitcher with solid control.  He has seen success as high as Triple-A, and has a career K/BB ratio nearing 4/1.  There is a chance he can make it as a fifth starter, but might be better served as a middle or long reliever.

Boxberger has the potential of becoming a late inning reliever, and has looked good in just under 50 big league innings.  He has a nasty change with good late run.  He might have an outside shot at being a decent closer, but he needs to limit his walks for that to happen.

The final piece of the deal is the only minor league position player in the deal, and the youngest player on the move, Maxx Tissenbaum.  Tissenbaum is not much of a prospect, and serves more as organizational depth, as he can play just about any infield position, but primarily plays up the middle.  With injuries to both Hak-Ju Lee and Tim Beckham, the Rays needed middle infield help through their system, and Tissenbaum gives them just that.
