The Price of a Win in Baseball: The Big Spenders
4. Philadelphia Phillies (446 wins, $748.9MM payroll, $1.679MM per win)
Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports
As far as wins are concerned, the last couple of years haven’t been kind to the Phillies. They failed to sport a record over .500 for 2012 (81-18) and 2013 (73-89).
For 2014, the Phils currently have six players making over $10MM with $155.7MM committed to their payroll (projected payroll of almost $160MM). Considering the Davenport projections have Philly winning only 72 games, the cost of a win could only go up.
