Reds relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman was struck in the face late Wednesday night by a line drive off the bat of the Royals’ Salvador Perez.

A medical team immediately rushed to Chapman’s aid. The pitcher, who never lost consciousness according to reports, was strapped to a backboard and carted off the field.

The exhibition game between Cincinnati and Kansas City was called off.

Reports later revealed that Chapman suffered fractures above his eye and nose. He was kept in the hospital overnight for observation.

The video of the line drive is scary as heck and not for the faint of heart.

Chapman’s own father was among the throng that rushed out to the mound. Many Royals and Reds players were reported to be visibly shaken after the incident.

The Reds are expected to release more information about Chapman’s condition as the day progresses.
