You know how everyone always says spring training doesn’t matter?
Well, it’s possible that they are right.
Take Jimmy Rollins. His spring was all sound and fury…getting benched, allegedly feuding with Ryne Sandberg, having his name brought up in trade speculation.
And in the end, as Shakespeare might have said, it all signified nothing.
Opening day is here, Jimmy Rollins is in the starting lineup, and in the second inning Rollins went yard with the bases juiced.
A four-run homer for Rollins giving the Phillies a 6-0 lead over Texas.
I guess that means Rollins can keep his starting job even after Freddy Galvis returns from an MRSA infection?
We’ll see what Ryne Sandberg has to say. If Rollins keeps driving in runs, it will be hard for Ryno to re-bench him.
