Kansas City Royals are the last team without a home run

Home runs are down all over the league, but nowhere more so than in Kansas City. As of Monday’s action, the Royals are still sitting on a goose egg when it comes to long balls.

Going into Sunday, the Yankees still had not hit a home run either, but Brett Gardner remedied that by going deep off the Blue Jays. That leaves the Royals as the only homerless team in major league baseball.

As Jeff Passan pointed out in a tweet, the Royals have been out-homered this year by 115 individual players. Mark Trumbo by himself has outpaced the Royals 5 home runs to o to this juncture.

The lack of power has not seriously hampered the Royals so far, with the team getting off to an acceptable 2-3 start, but over the long haul, you just aren’t going to win without putting some balls over the fence.

Even in this increasingly pitching-dominant era, power matters. The Royals need Billy Butler, Alex Gordon and the rest of their sort-of-sluggers to get it going.

Maybe they can get their power bats warmed up Monday against Matt Moore and the Rays.
