Second Baseman: Robinson Cano, Seattle Mariners

In all honesty, the metrics and statistics didn’t really influence my decision to opt with Cano. All it takes is to watch a quick video on him to realize why. His unbelievable range at second base and arm strength are truly remarkable. His “underarm” throw is the most amazing, yet casual play in the big leagues right now.

I would happily spend $240 million to watch Cano play some second base. If I had the money, that is. In 1350 innings at second base last season in the Bronx, Cano compiled some great numbers. He recorded 247 putouts and 404 assists whilst committing only six errors (only three of which were throwing errors), collating for a .991 fielding percentage.

His outstanding range and lack of errors last season are calculated to have saved 4.3 runs above average. Overall, he is considered to have saved six runs defensively above average; however, in 2012 and 2013, he is said to have saved a combined 21 runs above average due to his amazing defense. These numbers and his general prowess on the field are too good to ignore. And his two Rawlings Gold Gloves, of course.
