MLB All Star Game: Legends & Celebrity softball game rosters unveiled

While the MLB All Star Game is the main focus point of the break’s festivities, the annual Legends & Celebrity softball game has become a mainstay with it’s own memorable moments. This year’s game will be played on Sunday, July 13th, following the Futures Game. It will be televised on Monday, July 14th, following the Home Run Derby.

Each year there are numerous MLB legends in attendance between the two teams and this year will be no different. Andre Dawson, Rollie Fingers, Rickey Henderson, Ozzie Smith, Fred Lynn, Mike Piazza, and John Smoltz were all announced as participants on Monday, according to MLB.com’s Mark Newman. Minnesota Twins legends Jack Morris and Jim Thome had previously been confirmed as participants, with the festivities being held at Minnesota’s Target Field.

The group will be joined by other Minnesota sports stars including Maya Moore of the Lynx, Zach Parise of the Wild, Adrian Peterson of the Vikings, and Kevin Love of the Timberwolves. Love, of course, may not be a T’wolve by the time the game is played as he’s a likely candidate to be traded before Thursday’s NBA Draft. Arizona Cardinals wide received Larry Fitzgerald, a Minnesota native, will also participate.

US Olympic gold medalist Jenny Finch will return, as she does each year. Finch became the first woman to homer in the event in 2011 and is easily one of the more well known faces besides the MLB greats.

Also scheduled to play in the game are comedian Rob Riggle, rappers Nelly and Fat Joe, and actors Andy Cohen, Dylan O’Brien, Charlie McDermott, Andrew Zimmern, and James Denton. MTV’s “Off the Bat” hosts Sway, Chris Distefano, and Melanie Iglesias will round out the mix.
