The Yankees are looking to add to their offense, infield and pitching. Here are three possible candidates that may be useful to the Yankees during the second half of the 2013 season.

1. The Mariners Nick Franklin might make a good edition to the Yankees infield. He also has the versatility to play in the outfield which is always a bonus. He doesn’t have great numbers this season due to lack of playing time but in 2013 he 12 home runs in 102 MLB games. He could be a great edition for the Yankees IF the Mariners will be willing to let him go.

2. John MayberryJr. of the Philadelphia Phillies would be an excellent edition to the organization. He would stay in Triple-A but could make the perfect back up if an injury were to occur at first base or in the outfield. He could provide stability in case of an emergency, the Yankees would know that they had solid back up with MLB experience ready to come in and pick up the slack.

3. As for starting pitching the Yankees need some both quickly and badly. Yankees GM Brian Cashman has said that the club will not go after the high priced starters like David Price or Jeff Samardzija. Instead they are looking in the price range of guys like the Phillies’ Cole Hamels. He would be easy to obtain as the Phillies are expected to be having a major fire sale come the trade deadline. Hamels is 2-3 in 13 starts but that has more to do with the rest of the team than his pitching. His ERA is at 2.84 and he has 91 strikeouts in 88.2 innings of work. He’d be a good four or five starter on any team.
