Ubaldo Jimenez sprained his ankle on Wednesday, rolling it awkwardly in the parking lot of his apartment complex, and the Baltimore Orioles have placed him on the disabled list. The team was able to make the move retroactive to July 6, the day following his latest start. With the All Star Break coming up next week the timing could work in their favor as he’s not expected to miss much more than the 15 days.

Jimenez had been scheduled to pitch Saturday, but Chris Tillman will reportedly move up a day to take his place. Kevin Gausman will start on Sunday in Tillman’s place.

The 30 year old Jimenez has had a rough season in Baltimore. He’s made 18 starts on the year, posting a 3-8 record with a 4.52 ERA and 1.535 WHIP. His 60 walks allowed leads the American League. It’s hardly the production that the team was hoping for when they signed him to a four year, $50 Million deal prior to the season. Baltimore also forfeited a draft pick since Jimenez had turned down a qualifying offer from the Cleveland Indians following the 2013 season.

Gausman has been shuttled back and forth between Baltimore and their Triple-A affiliate on the year. He’ll be making his seventh start and has a 3.51 ERA and 1.320 WHIP in 33.1 IP. The team has been careful to limit his innings in recent weeks with the hopes of having him unrestrained for the season’s second half.
