Major League Baseball will welcome six new members into the hallowed grounds in Cooperstown today, with the induction of the 2014 MLB Hall of Fame class. Three of the greatest players to play the game – Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, and Frank Thomas – will be enshrined alongside three of the most successful managers – Tony LaRussa, Joe Torre, and Bobby Cox. It is certainly an awe-inspiring class and will mark at memorable day for baseball.
Profiles of each honoree can be found here on site: the players and the managers.
The group met with the media on Saturday, prior to the ceremonies to honor Eric Nadel, Roger Angell, and Joe Gariagiola.
With crowds exceeding 40,000 anticipated for the ceremonies – especially fans of the Atlanta Braves, who will see Maddux and Glavine go in with their former manager Cox – this also figures to be one of the biggest attended induction ceremonies in Hall of Fame history.
The induction ceremonies themselves will begin around 1:30 PM EST and will be viewable on MLB Network and simulcast on both MLB.com and the MLB At Bat app. Each player has been asked to limit their speeches to around ten minutes, due to time constraints.
