With the Pacific Coast League season over, the league awards were announced, and for once they got it right.

It is no surprise that Joc Pederson won the league’s Rookie of the Year and MVP awards as he put together a 30/30 season while playing a quality center field. To go with his power and speed, he also hit over .300 and rightfully earned himself a call-up to the big leagues where he will make his big league debut right about the same time this article gets posted.

Jimmy Nelson gives the Nashville Sounds their second consecutive PCL Pitcher of the Year title after Johnny Hellweg earned the honor last season. Nelson has struggled some in 10 big leagues starts this season, but his numbers in Nashville were outstanding. He amassed a 10-2 record with an ERA of just 1.46 and struck out 114 batters in 111 innings. It seemed the only thing he couldn’t do for the Sounds this season was hit; he was 0/24 with 17 strikeouts.

In 70 games with Iowa, Kris Bryant batted .295 and hit 21 home runs. He also put up 22 while he was in Double-A, giving him 43 on the season, one more than Joey Gallo to earn the minor league home run crown.

Brennan Boesch has had his moments in the big leagues in his career, but this was his best season in the minor leagues. He led the PCL with a .332 batting average and tallied 25 in both doubles and home runs. He could very well be a nice extra bat for the Los Angeles Angels down the stretch.

The playoffs will feature the Kansas City Royals affiliate from Omaha taking on the Memphis Redbirds in a five game series, while the Las Vegas 51s will take on the Reno Aces.
