According to CBSSports’ Jon Heyman, the Texas Rangers have hired former player Michael Young as part of their front office staff. His exact role and title have not yet been announced.

Young was rumored at one point to be a possible managerial candidate. The Rangers are still looking for a manager to replace Ron Washington who resigned suddenly in mid-September due to off-the-field, personal, marital issues.
Bench coach Tim Bogar finished out the Rangers’ season as interim manager. He is considered to be the front runner to lead the Rangers in 2015.
Instead of looking to be the manager of the Rangers, Young has been unofficially assisting the team’s executives in choosing the right person for the job. They obviously liked what they saw in Young as a baseball executive as much as they liked him as a player since they have offered him a more permenant role in the front office.

Young spent time with the Philadelphia Phillies and the Los Angeles Dodgers but he is best known for playing in Texas. Young spent 12 seasons of his 14-year career playing for the Rangers and is still beloved by the Texas fans.
Young, a seven-time All-Star with the Rangers, announced his retirement after the 2013 season. Although his final season was with the Dodgers he retired as a Ranger. He left baseball with a career slashline of .300/.346/.441 and should make an excellent addition to the Ranger’s executive staff.
