Atlanta Braves Clean House of Wrens, Trade Kyle Wren

The Frank Wren era with the Atlanta Braves ended when he was fired on September 22nd. That same day, the Braves let scout, special assistant to the GM, and brother of Frank, Jeff Wren go as well. On Friday, the Braves have finally cleaned house of all Wrens, as Kyle Wren was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers for Low-A pitcher Zach Quintana.

Quintana was taken in the third round of the 2012 draft but has really struggled in pro ball. He pitched 194.2 innings while putting up an ERA of 6.15 and a K/BB ratio of just 1.35.

More from MLB Prospects

Wren was slotted into the number 12 spot of the Milwaukee Brewers prospect list according to MLB.com, but that is not saying much as the Brewers have a rather weak system. Wren spent the fall in the Arizona Fall League, where he was a Taxi Squad player, leaving him available on Wednesdays and Saturdays only. He has hit .238 over 12 games including a pair of doubles but struck out in 11 of 44 trips to the plate.

Wren has good speed, stealing 46 bags in the minors in 2014, and has shown an ability to hit for a decent average, .290 in 2014 and .304 over the past two seasons. He has no power, having hit just two in 805 pro plate appearances, and his weak arm will probably limit him to left field. He projects to be a fourth or fifth outfielder in the big leagues who could bring a spark with his legs on the bases.

Wren is a member of the AFL West Division champions, the Peoria Javelinas, who will take on the Salt River Rafters on Saturday in the AFL title game. It will be interesting to see if Wren plays and if he is in a Brewers uniform given the Brewers AFL affiliate are the Glendale Desert Dogs.
