Chris Getz joins Kansas City Royals’ front office
The Kansas City Royals have announced that former infielder Chris Getz will be joining the team’s front office. Getz will reportedly be Kansas City’s Baseball of Operations Assistant and will also work in Player Development. With a vast knowledge of the game, Getz will get the opportunity to help develop players into sufficient contributors to an already great club.
Getz was drafted by the White Sox in the fourth round of the 2005 Amateur Draft. After the better part of three years, Getz debuted with the Chicago White Sox on April 28, 2008. By 2009, Getz became the primary starter at second base in Chicago, playing in 107 games. 2009 was his most productive year offensively: hitting .261, scoring 49 runs and driving in 31 RBI. In the same year, he accumulated 25 stolen bases, which was also a career best.
On November 5, 2009, Chris Getz was traded to the Kansas City Royals. With his time in Kansas City, Getz only played 100 or more games once, which came in 2011. He would be with the Royals from 2010-2013 until signing with the Blue Jays. Getz played in 10 games with Toronto in 2014 before officially retiring on May 16.
In his 7 years of MLB service, he finished with 176 runs scored, 352 hits, 111 RBI’s, 89 stolen bases, and a .250 batting average in 459 games.
Although his playing career didn’t go as hoped, Getz was always seen as well-rounded defensively and displayed hustle whenever he could. Teammates loved having him around and enjoyed the atmosphere that he brought to the game. He’s always been well liked throughout baseball, even without putting up star numbers. All of these qualities are key to succeeding within a front office, and surely that’s why Kansas City is giving him a shot.
