This might be the longest shot of the bunch, but GM Brian Cashman did say yesterday that the team was looking for a right-handed reliever. The Yankees are already familiar with Soriano, having signed him to a sizeable contract prior to the 2011 season. When Mariano Rivera missed most of 2012 with a torn ACL, Soriano stepped up in a huge way, racking up 42 saves in the legend’s absence.

While the bullpen duo of Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances has been absolutely filthy, the middle relief bridge to the dominant pair has appeared somewhat shaky at times. The Yanks could see Soriano as a potential fit there. However, they will also remember that Soriano was far more effective for them as a closer than a setup man. They may be more inclined to look at in-house options, such as grooming recent call-up Jacob Lindgren into higher-leverage situations.
