Oakland Athletics designate Andy Parrino for assignment

The Oakland Athletics announced on Friday that they’ve designated infielder Andy Parrino for assignment. The move creates an additional 25- and 40-man roster spot with Ike Davis and Edward Mujica both coming off the disabled list.

Parrino got just eight plate appearances with Oakland this year, working two walks and scoring a run. His real value, as it always has, came in the form of defensive versatility. The 29-year-old appeared in 10 games at shortstop and six at third base, and has also played second base and both corner outfield spots in his career.

Parrino could potentially see himself claimed by an injury-plagued team like the Nationals, however he appears ticketed for AAA Nashville.
