Jose Fernandez Already Proving to Be Miami Marlins’ Messiah

Far be it for anyone to consider that they, by themselves, can revive an entire team’s season, but I would not put it past Jose Fernandez. The 22-year old all-around athlete came back with a bang in his season debut for the Fish as he led the team to a victory against the San Francisco Giants.

But in typical Jose Fernandez fashion, he did not just do it from the mound.

The spark plug hurler may have gone on to earn a quality start and a win but probably the biggest moment came when he rocked a solo shot in the big inning that gave the Marlins the to-be conclusive lead.

Jose Fernandez may just be one man, but if anyone can save the Miami Marlins, it is him.

The Marlins missed a premium opportunity to rejuvenate their squad with a fresh face when they fired manager Mike Redmond and replaced him with GM Dan Jennings. The move instilled absolutely zero confidence in the club as they continued to lose and it’s not like a GM has the necessary capabilities to manage the team he helped create.

With far better options available such as Pudge, the Marlins really could have jump-started their slow start. But they chose not to.

Now, Jose Fernandez can be that jump start. He arrives at a time when the Marlins were really starting to lose contention. 15 games under .500 and 11.5 games out of the division lead is not an enviable position to be in. That being said, it is not an insurmountable position to be in either. Fernandez’s exuberance has a residual effect and everyone on the team will benefit from his return.

Even Dan Jennings.

He solidified the sweep of the contending Giants and after a 14-month down spell, a quality start exceeds expectations.

The Miami Marlins do not have a bad team. They were pegged as a team with stellar potential to start the year, but it just did not go their way. Dee Gordon has emerged as one of the best for-average hitters in the league and once Giancarlo Stanton returns from the DL, they have the most feared hitter in baseball back in their ranks.

They may still be missing a few pieces to be legitimate playoff contenders, but a little confidence can give even the lowliest team hopes of something greater. Jose Fernandez has all the confidence that the Miami Marlins need to give it a fresh start.
