New York Mets no longer trading for Carlos Gomez

12:25 AM EST: Ken Rosenthal reports that the Mets were the ones to back out of the deal due to concerns over Gomez’s hip. Gomez was on the disabled list early this season with hip issues, and evidently his medicals were too dicey for the Mets to pull the trigger.

11:06 PM EST: New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson told reporters after the game Wednesday night that “there is no trade” for Carlos Gomez and that “one will not transpire.” This puts an end to reports from earlier Wednesday night indicating that the Mets had acquired the outfielder, which appeared to be the case after Wilmer Flores was taken out of the Mets game tonight and Brewers teammates bid farewell to Gomez on social media.

With that being said, the Mets are now back in the market for an outfield bat, which could mean discussions coming together quickly for either fellow Brewers outfielder Gerardo Parra or Reds outfielder Jay Bruce. While Bruce would likely be an expensive trade target, he’d also provide another big power bat to hit behind Lucas Duda in the middle of the New York lineup. This is all speculation, of course.
