Saturday Notes: Alex Rodriguez out of lineup for New York Yankees

Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is out of Saturday’s lineup for New York’s game against the Atlanta Braves. With National League rules intact, the Yankees will be without a designated hitter spot in the lineup, and manager Joe Girardi doesn’t seem keen on playing Rodriguez in the field.

Perhaps the break will be beneficial for Rodriguez, who is in the midst of a mini four-game hitless streak. Rodriguez has recorded hits in just eight of 22 games he’s seen action in during August, and seen his average drop from .282 at the end of July to .255 as of Saturday.

Despite his slump, Rodriguez has still bounced back from his 2014 suspension to hit an impressive 26 home runs and 69 RBIs. The three-time MVP has also drawn 67 walks, hits 18 doubles and also stolen three bases along the way.
