Megan Robinson of Global News Toronto reports that the Toronto Blue Jays have designated utility man Ty Kelly for assignment. The move makes space on the 40-man roster for newly-acquired Danny Dorn.
Kelly spent roughly a month on the Toronto 40-man after being claimed from the Cardinals in July. Originally drafted by the Orioles, the 27-year-old has spent seven professional seasons in four different organizations, but has yet to see his first big-league action. Kelly has spent time with Baltimore, Seattle, St. Louis, and now Toronto.
In 128 plate appearances with AAA Buffalo, Kelly hit .259 with a home run, 12 RBIs and 10 walks. His versatility and history of better production at the plate could make Kelly an appealing option for a club looking for another bench piece when September comes around, though he’ll likely accept an assignment should he pass through waivers.
