Toronto Blue Jays designate Colt Hynes for assignment
The Toronto Blue Jays announced on Tuesday that they’ve designated left-handed pitcher Colt Hynes for assignment. The move creates a 40-man roster spot for Tuesday call-up Jeff Francis.
Hynes appeared in just five games for Toronto in 2015, marking his second cup of coffee in the big leagues. He had some success in the minors, however, pitching to a combined 3.22 ERA with a solid 7.3 K/9 rate through 44.2 innings between AA New Hampshire and AAA Buffalo. The 30-year-old did struggle with walks however, issuing free passes at a rate of 4.0 BB/9 at AAA and 3.4 overall.
