The Milwaukee Brewers are expected to name David Stearns as their next general manager. Stearns currently works as the assistant general manager of the Houston Astros. The news was first reported by FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal and later corroborated by MLB.com Astros writer Brian McTaggart.

At 30 years of age, Stearns is one of the young rising stars on the MLB executive scene. In fact, he will become the youngest GM in baseball upon taking the reins in Milwaukee.
The Brewers began their search for a new general manager after Doug Melvin announced in August that he would be stepping down from the post after 13 seasons. He will remain with the club in an advisory capacity.
A 2007 graduate of Harvard, Stearns spent time with the Mets, Pirates, Indians and the MLB Commissioner’s Office before arriving in Houston. He played a significant role in the Astros’ analytics department, which could signal the type of philosophy he will bring to the Brewers.
At 63-86 and in the cellar of the NL Central, Milwaukee has been through an exhausting season and likely faces a major rebuilding phase. Stearns’ youth could make him a good fit for a long-term project. Being hired before the end of the season will also allow him to get a head-start on preparing for his first offseason at the helm.
